Data Quality & Exclusions
GoodVote publishes the full list of FEC independent-expenditure records we exclude from totals on the site. These are known troll filings (e.g. SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS), single-record outliers over $500M (100x larger than any legitimate IE), and clear duplicate bulk-entry errors. Every excluded record below links to the original FEC filing so you can verify.
Methodology
- Exclusion source of truth:
goodvote-466412.fec_raw.schedule_e_excluded_records - Single-record IE amounts >$500M are flagged as outliers. Known fictitious committees (from fec_raw.false_fictitious_filings) and bulk-duplicate entries are also excluded.
- Downstream reads use
v_schedule_e_clean_v2_YYYYandstg_independent_expenditureswhich anti-join to this exclusion list. - Last refreshed:
